sComm asked Doug Strickland to share his feelings about his experience with the UbiDuo. How do you feel after using the UbiDuo to communicate freely with hearing people? "I feel a sense of confidence knowing I will not miss a word or sub-subject being discussed as is usually the case when relying on my limited hearing." What are your thoughts and emotions as you are able to hold your own conversations on the UbiDuo? "There is a relief, thus reducing the stress I usually experience, knowing I can come away from a conversation having received all the information needed. It removes the guessing game associated with sending and receiving messages verbally." 
What situations have you used the UbiDuo in such as meetings or social functions? "At this time I have used the UbiDuo only at my desk (one on one) but plan to expand the use in time most particularly as my hearing further declines." What other comments would you want to share with the public about the UbiDuo? "As someone who lives neither in the hearing or deaf worlds (severely hearing impaired), the UbiDuo helps to remove the alienation and loneliness of life because I do not relate to either world. It allows me to stand on a level playing field with the hearing world who for the most part will not meet you halfway to accommodate your challenge/disability." |
