UbiDuo Experiences

Communicating with family and friends

"It was wonderful elation to be able to visit with a relative, in spite of the loud band playing full force."

sComm asked John Forbes to share his feelings about his experience with the UbiDuo.

How do you feel about being able to use the UbiDuo to communicate freely with hearing people?

"With the first time use at the family wedding I was amazed that I could communicate freely without having to have assistance in repeating everything twice to understand the comments of a conversation."

What are your thoughts and emotions as you are able to hold your own conversations on the UbiDuo?

"It was wonderful elation to be able to visit with a relative, in spite of the loud band playing full force with the woofers blaring, as I just typed away at the conversation back and forth with ease. The difference was being a 'sitting duck' without the UbiDuo at the earlier wedding I attended before I had the UbiDuo."

What situations have you used the UbiDuo in such as meetings or social functions?

"At the deaf-blind camp I attended in June, I was able to communicate with some deaf-blind campers who were deaf and could sign better than I could sign. It filled the gap in the communication."

What other comments would you want to share with the public about the UbiDuo?

"Individuals who were both deaf-blind and hearing who tried out the UbiDuo were amazed and excited that there is technology of this type available for communication in deaf oriented means. One potential use that was mentioned was the UbiDuo could be used for notetaking. The notes taken could be downloaded into a PC computer for later editing or use in course studying."
